Congratulations to Karen Shuker who successfully credentialed with the College earlier this year. She has demonstrated her expertise in the field of mental health pharmacy.
Karen Shuker is Principal Pharmacist ‑ Education, Training & Development at Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. She is also the President of the College of Mental Health Pharmacy. She has served on the CMHP Council since 2016, and was Education Lead for several years before becoming Vice-President in 2021 and President in 2023.
The CMHP Registrar said that the breadth of Karen’s portfolio and her work across organisations was particularly impressive.
We invited Karen to say a few words about her role and what it means to her to become credentialed. She said:
“I’ve worked in mental health for many years and wish I had completed my credentialing earlier! The portfolio requirements are structured well to support reflection on your role and how you demonstrate specialist practice. Once I had identified the evidence I would use the reflections flowed well.
My role is education lead and I chair our local systems pharmacy workforce group. I also provide clinical pharmacy support to learning disability services. It’s always rewarding to support pharmacy trainees through their career development and see them join GPhC register as Pharmacists or Pharmacy Technicians.
Having had my portfolio reviewed by my peers and awarded credentialed status I now feel assured in being able to call myself a specialist mental health pharmacist.”
