Recognition of expertise

Congratulations to Lynn Haygarth who has successfully re-credentialled with us in recognition of her continuing expert practice in the field of mental health pharmacy.

Lynn works at the University of Huddersfield on the undergraduate pharmacy course. College Assistant Registrar Ciara Ni Dhubhlaing, who oversees the the process of re-credentialling, says that Lynn's work to ensure effective and safe use of medicines within mental health services is most impressive and her influence in developing the mental health knowledge of pharmacy students at Huddersfield will no doubt have wide-reaching benefits for patients and for pharmacy as a profession long into the future.

Lynn finds her work at the University rewarding, saying: "I am using the opportunity to develop the knowledge of the up and coming pharmacists in areas of mental health and raising awareness of the choice and medication website and current mental health service provision. Already the students are bringing back examples of how they have been able to support patient care from their community placements which is rewarding."

When asked what being credentialled by the CMHP means to her, she tells us: "As a credentialled member of the college I feel able to continue to use my title of Specialist Pharmacy Advisor - Mental Health. This allows me to have the credibility to continue my work developing mental services, understanding the way unique services work and the respectability within the Profession of Pharmacy.  I belong to the group within pharmacy supporting people living with mental health problems to use medicines optimally, to improve their quality of life and I will continue to support  and mentor pharmacists to develop their own skills in this way."

Credentialled (or full) members of CMHP, have demonstrated their expertise in the field of mental health pharmacy. They have shown active experience in psychiatric pharmacy practice which has been assessed through submission of a portfolio and a viva. Members are invited to recredential every five years.
